About 17 years ago, I first began exploring holistic wellness. This was around the time my battle with eczema intensified and my faith in conventional medicine began wavering, and so I dove headfirst into alternative medicine research – specifically searching for affordable, natural products.
I spent hours upon hours reading up on the importance of not only what we put into our bodies, but also what we put onto it.
It only made sense; and yet, none of the countless allopathic doctors I’d seen had ever even mentioned that the human body ultimately functions in harmony. And when one organ suffers, so do the rest!
Fast forward many years later to my journey as a new mom. I became extremely aware of not only the quality of the food, water, and supplements I was consuming, but also the products I was putting directly onto my skin. As it turns out, to find affordable, natural products for new moms, you have to look hard… but Earthley Wellness makes it easy!
But before we go there, let’s recap with this: the skin is the human’s body largest organ. And if, as new moms, we’re told to avoid certain potent products during pregnancy, why then aren’t we also told to be extra cautious of the ones containing chemicals proven toxic?
I’ve been using natural brands and products for over a decade. I literally read the ingredients on every single thing that comes into my house; it’s just a habit at this point. Whether we eat it or use it on our bodies, I read the labels. And if it’s got artificial coloring, dye, parabens, polysorbate-80, sulfates, fragrance, or numerous other ingredients I can’t pronounce, it’s not coming into my house.
So now let’s talk about Earthley Wellness. You’ve probably heard of them, or at least seen new mom influencers advocating natural wellness touting their products on Instagram. I’d heard of this holistic wellness company years ago, but only recently as a pregnant mama planning for a home birth finally purchased some of their products.
Earthley’s philosophy is simple: “all families deserve access to truly clean, natural, and affordable health and wellness products.” And that’s exactly the case! Not only are their price points affordable, but they also work with an herbalist to formulate and approve their products. Most herbs used in Earthley products are safe for the whole family, but of course, you should always consult with your preferred medical practitioner before trying anything new.
With that said, here are a few of my favorite affordable, natural products for new moms:
- SOOTHING BELLY BUTTER: Smells like chocolate-y goodness, glides on smoothly and leaves your skin oh-so-soft. Perfect for growing bellies and itchy skin! And the best part? It’s only got five ingredients!
- PREGNANCY TEA: An organic blend of red raspberry leaf, green rooibos leaf, dandelion root, nettle leaf, catnip leaf, lemon peel, and ginger root. Formulated specifically for pregnant mamas, this can help soothe upset tummies while also toning your uterus and providing vitamin K. Good hot or iced! I like to make a big batch that I store in my refrigerator and drink daily once I reach my third trimester.
- POSTPARTUM BALANCE: An herbal blend designed to promote hormonal and emotional balance post-pregnancy. I wish I’d known about this when the baby blues hit me hard after my oldest was born! Take it sublingually or mix with water. Safe for use while breastfeeding.
- MAMA’S MAGIC MILK BOOST: Although we know it can take up to a week for breastmilk to come in postpartum, it doesn’t hurt to take herbal blends that stimulate milk production. Although this is a two-in-one because the herbs in this tincture are also formulated to help soothe baby’s tummy and reduce gas!
- MILK FLOWIN’ SALVE: When my oldest was born, my boobs literally exploded overnight when my milk came in… and man, did it hurt! This salve is specifically for clogged milk ducts and to help relieve engorged breasts, plus it’s safe for baby so no need to worry about wiping off.
- MINERAL DEODORANT: Whether you’re a mom or not, you need a good nontoxic deodorant! And especially when you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, it’s important to be mindful of the things we put on/into our bodies that then transfer to baby. This aluminum-free, baking soda-free deodorant comes in several different scents, including unscented, and is free of any artificial ingredients. I really like the Lavender, but best of all, it does an excellent job of covering unpleasant body odor!
- ELDERBERRY ELIXIR: Adding this in because as we head into the colder seasons, elderberries contain immune-fighting properties that both pregnant/nursing mamas, kiddos and adults alike can safely utilize to ward off flu-bugs. I especially like this ultra concentrated blend because it’s shelf-stable, alcohol-free and contains no added sugars like a lot of other brands do. Use code ELDER2021 for 20% of all Elderberry kits and elixirs!
Which Earthley Wellness products are your favorite? I’d love to hear!
With love & grace,“
Natalie
